Over the last few days I have been weighed down by my Dutch language study involving extensive rewiring of my speech and language neural pathways. So it was nice to let my brain go slack and accompany the gals of the Australian and New Zealand Women’s Club to the Ladies Night at the Pathe to watch the gals in Sex and the City 2. As gals we loved the red carpet entrance at the Pathe Buitenhof, the pink cosmopolitan cocktails, the sugary mini cupcakes, the semi naked gold body painted male models bestowing lucky door prizes and the gratis goodie bag comprising Dutch fashion mags, SJP (Sarah Jessica Parker) perfume and cellulite reducing lotion.
The predictable plot, clichéd characters and corny comedy meant I didn’t have to think too much. Here’s my synopsis: Carrie, the needy romantic, Samantha the nympho cougar, Charlotte the domestic goddess and Miranda the A-type workaholic head to opulent and glittery Abu Dhabi “the new middle east” with their indiscreet wardrobes and culture clash with an Arab Sheik and other Middle Eastern stereotypes. In the end, everybody resolves all their relationship difficulties and they all live happily ever after.
